San Diego American Indian Warriors Association

Honor Color Guard - Wellness - 2008

The March 17, 2008 Wellness conference social Pow wow at the Town and Country Convention center was a fine opportunity to support the community and especially Vickie Gambala of the San Diego Unified School District Indian Education program. She has been very supportive of the American Indian Warriors being selected as the Honor Color Guard at many events.

Visitors and friends attended the Monday evening cultural presentation. This is quite an accomplishment on a night that frequently has a different focus: Saint Patrick’s Day. This is a wellness conveyance and as such many of the attendees are committed to sober and drug free environments. The drums filled the large room with beautiful songs for the dancers to lift their hearts and move the feet to the beat of the of our Mother Earth’s heartbeat.

Visitors and celebrities from Hollywood added to the night’s rich entertainment. We are always glad to see our good friend Saginaw Grant, Sac and Fox USMC Korean War Veteran, joined with us in the Gourd dance.

This four day Wellness conveyance is a familiar friend to the local community. University of Oklahoma's University OUTREACH ~ College of Continuing Education addresses the emerging health needs, particularly among Native people across North America and Canada.

Health Promotion Programs has provided an array of services in the wellness area (conferences, trainings, workshops, research activities, technical assistance) and has assisted communities, tribes, agencies and individuals in promoting healthy lifestyles.

We have participated in many of the workshops and call to conference opening sessions in previous years.
