SDAIW Meeting Minutes: October 7, 2009

6:30 – 7 or so. A Casual potluck precedes the meeting-bring something tasty or healthy, if you must, for all to share!

Guests: Barbara Pepi, VA Minority Veterans Program Coordinator did a site visit to the AIWA organization and distributed relevant information regarding Veterans rights. There was a short question and answer session on death benefits and what might be due spouses, etc.
At the conclusion, she excused herself and the assembled group sorted out the possibilities of the evening. Most reports were tabled until such time the AIWA officer situation is redefined.

Roy Cook took charge and chaired the ad hoc meeting. He stated that what could be done is to document points of view in a round robin format:

1. Event coordinator, Ronnie Murphy brought up the Massing of the colors and asked members’ commitment to participate in the Color Guard. Also, he is glad to be here tonight. He is having problems with left over shrapnel in his stomach.

2. Edward Tisnedo asked if we had a youth or Auxiliary support for the AIWA organization. He also asked about the dues and the AIWA by-laws.

3. Juan del Rio, new member, said he had an extensive history in Chicano affairs and is a veteran of the USMC Reserve. He is an urban planner and is currently offering assistance in mortgage foreclosures.

4. Lyle Edie Martinez, US Army Vietnam, said we need core leadership and he wants to participate in the Veterans Day Parade.

5. Joaquin Sandoval, elected Sgt-at-Arms, said California Coast is our bank and he is the only signatory. He continues to unravel the IRS issue and they still have questions.
Motion to adjourn: 8:25pm by Ronnie Murphy- seconded by Lyle Martinez.

By Roy Cook: AIWA Historian
