BRING YOUR MARCH COPY OF MINUTES TO JANUARY MEETING
The location of all AIWA meetings is at 3928 Illinois St. San Diego, CA. Many Nations in Recovery facility. Chet A. Hunt Community Center. AIWA is welcome to utilize the facilities in a respectful manner. (It is two blocks east of 30th St. and one-half block North of University Ave. on the west side of the street.)

Barona Event- AIWA members were told to enjoy the event and eat all they can for the outstanding services they have showed in the past.
Palomar College- Richard DeCrane respectfully asked for funding of $175.00 to help fund the Native American Appreciation Day on campus. AIWA approved the funding and handed Richard the funds.

Veteran Medals- Henry Mendibles will call vendor to see if AIWA can purchase medals at a discounted price, hopefully even free.

Visitors:

Melanie Cain was invited by Ivan Sam to join AIWA members in AIWA November 2007 meeting to share the camaraderie of Native American Veterans. She mentioned that she was a psychologist at the San Diego American Indian Health Center. Melanie mentioned that she is full Native American of the Santa Clara Pueblo and Jicarilla Apache tribes. She honorably served 5 years, 10 months in the United States Air Force. She says she’s interested in working with the Native American communities in the San Diego area.

Round Robin discussion:

Larry Strickland- Says he went out to Las Vegas to support his daughter’s football team in the Womens Super Bowl Football game against New York.

Ronnie Murphy- Says he’s doing good, wife is doing pretty well and kids are doing fine.

Gary Burrill- Busy kaotic month for them, said he needs a heavy equipment operator to do some land construction for them.

Ida Huhn- Says her daughter, Gabriella, is expecting their child anytime right now. Busy with improvement of their property.

George Hyde- Done with traveling this year, looking forward to next year’s traveling, he and his wife just been hitting the casinos in the local area.

Roy Cook- says they had a really good time at Santa Ysabel. He said he has been busy visiting with his mother as well.

Ivan Sam- Says he’s been busy trying to get help for his grandfather. His grandfather isn’t doing too well and needs to have an important ceremony done. Most likely the ceremony may take place this December. He also mentioned that he has been attending a lot of ceremonies within the past few weeks.

Joaquin Sandoval- Says he’s been having problems with his son. His son has problems with alcohol, and now he’s trying to get him back on his feet. His son’s two daughters are under Joaquin and his wife’s care for now, maybe up until his son takes care of his problems.

Richard DeCrane- Says the event at Palomar College went very good. He said Stanley Rodriquez sang about 12 songs. They also had a few dancers for Inter-Tribal Powwow.

Henry Mendibles- Says he’s more interested in singing with the “Red Warrior” drum group. He enjoys dancing gourd dance, but prefers to sing.
