The location of all AIWA meetings is at 3928 Illinois St. San Diego, CA. Many Nations in Recovery facility. Chet A. Hunt Community Center. AIWA is welcome to utilize the facilities in a respectful manner. (It is two blocks east of 30th St. and one-half block North of University Ave. on the west side of the street.)

BRING YOUR JULY COPY OF MINUTES TO AUGUST MEETING

Motion passed to have dinner and the next meeting – August 6th at the Sunrise Buffet located at 3860 Convoy Street #121, San Diego CA 92111.

Social potluck from 1800-1900.

– Chicken, chile mac, fruit and veg’s.

Call to order:

Officer Reports:

President: Ivan Sam- Present

– IB powwow had a great AIWA turnout. Apologized for conflict that occurred prior to grand entry.

– Passed out guidelines for flags.

– AIWA was invited to a funeral at the La Jolla Rez (Ivan, Joaquin, Rich attended)

Vice President: Henry Mendibles- Present

– Carried eagle staff at IB.

– Relayed message from Anthony Gastelum, who does not like the idea of changing the patch and has requested some time at the next meeting.

– Went on a trip to the Grand Canyon and the Navajo Nation.

– Believes Ivan handled the conflict at the IB Powwow very well.

Secretary: Richard DeCrane- Present

– Was saddened and disturbed by the conflict that occurred at the IB Powwow.

– Believes that in order to avoid this situation from occurring again, guidelines/procedures need to be established for bringing in flags.

Treasurer: George Hyde – Present

– Received and deposited Camp Pendleton Honorarium

– Two new members joined and paid annual dues.

– Found a book on Native flags, has contact info if you would like to buy or order one.

Master at Arms: Gary Burrill- Present

– He is back from training to fulfill his duties; will get flags from Joaquin.

– Witness conflict at IB and tried to help resolve the situation.

– Feels that we need to post flags at events.

– Will make a flag holder.

*Event Coordinator: Ronnie Murphy – Not Present

New business: (M/S)

Patch

– Ivan motioned to change the colors of the patch’s flag to earth tones or the four sacred colors; Henry second; All in favor.

– Tabled idea to completely change patch design

Old business: (M/S)

June minutes:

– Approved.

– Will E-mail to Roy to post on website.

Tax ID issue Joaquin:

– IHRC will be covering AIWA on a temp basis; but we still need to renew Non profit status.

– Need new name for organization before we can move on. Keeping name. Tabled till next month.

– Will present a rough DRAFT of paperwork at next meeting for input/changes.

– Suggests that Treasurer get in contact with IHRC accountant on 501 issue.

Cap on funds:

– A work in progress - Need guidelines and application.

– Tabled until we get more info from old members - What is the original goal of AIWA.

– Motion passed to place a freeze on giving money out until issue is resolved; addition to motion that will allow for funding to paid AIWA members

Plaque:

– Need a DD-214 for application process.

– Motion passed to accept rough draft of plaque.

– Roy will send e-mail

AIWA Banquet:

– Motion passed to have dinner during next meeting – August 6th at the Sunrise Buffet located at 3860 Convoy Street #121, San Diego CA 92111.

Native Vet Medal:

– George has ordered 12 and they are on the way.

Upcoming events:

– AIWA Banquet: August 6th at the Sunrise Buffet located at 3860 Convoy Street #121, San Diego CA 92111.

– Pechanga Powwow. AIWA will be color guard along with local Pala Vet’s.

– Flag practice next meeting. TBA

– Disneyland Resort event TBA

– Bridge Youth program on Meth education (Juaquin to organize with Jackson)TBA

– Left early.

– Doing good and working on boxes.

Larry S:

– Aunt passed in a good way.

Gina:

– Fun at Fair and learned about printer press;

– Training replacement.

Sam:

– Glad to be back.

Henry M:

– Did good at IB.

Joaquin S:

– Went to Fair and ran into some old friends.

– Headed to LA

– Had a good time at IB powwow.

– Has a MIC system if AIWA needs it.

Roy C:

· Thank you for card.

Ida:

· Gary is back.

· Working on house and facing a lot of issue.

Gary:

· Back!! Will work on flag issues.

· Training going well.

Ivan :

– Will be at NAC at Stan’s on Friday night.

– Working on gourds

– In school.
